Boris K is a name I came up with about 7 years ago when I began accumulating electronic musical equipment and recording and producing electronic music. I am a horror movie fan, and liked the ring of a shortened Boris Karloff. It started with some drum samples and a Roland Prelude keyboard. Eventually I would buy my first two synths: a Novation Bass Station 2, and an Arturia Microfreak. Inevitably, I discovered the world of soft synths, too.
As a long time song writer and musician, I began exploring and creating a variety of electronic and mixed music, beginning with Chill Out/Down Tempo, and eventually trying my hand at all kinds of music, from intricate IDM and Drum and Bass, to House and Techno, and a whole bunch of other genres and sub-genres in between.
Previously, I wrote and played rock, punk, funk, and folky music. I still occasionally blend some of these influences into my newer creations.
My name is Steven H. Orr, and I reside in Invermere, BC, where I work as a school teacher and spend hours each week in my makeshift townhouse garage studio, making music and having fun.
